ORIGINAL AIR DATE: 5/19/17
I’ve known John Guerin since my first stint at WHAV oh so many years ago, when morning drive news was my life. Aside from the late great Bill Pike who understood that when I was calling him, it wasn’t to join me for a cup of coffee…normally, John was the same. Both men understood what WHAV meant to the community and used the station as a resource and information source and knew the power of the media.
I said this during my interview with John – I wanted him to be my mayor just a little bit longer when I moved back to Haverhill. (Apparently, he wanted to be mayor too, but things didn’t quite work out that way…) Since then, it was a hope of mine to get John behind the microphone at least one more time to talk about perspective. Perspective of more than a dozen years. Perspective of leaving office, then getting back into the thick of things with a state senate campaign by working for former Methuen Mayor Bill Manzi (another guy who I want to interview…) Perspective of the climate of the current day Haverhill from John’s current position with the Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce. Perspective.
If you know John, you know he’s about as genuine as they come. Thoughtful, yet “off the cuff”. That’s what our interview was like – two friends talking about the good old days. If we only had an adult beverage and a back porch rather than a studio, it couldn’t be more comfortable.
Thanks again John – and here’s hoping your boss Beverly Donovan approves.
